Bread Basket & Soup Kitchen
“The service that you perform is not only supplying the need of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God”. 2nd Corinthians 9: 12(NIV)
The Bread Basket at Woodycrest United Methodist Church is an outreach ministry dedicated to fighting hunger and assisting individuals and families of all ages and backgrounds. Our mission, in partnership with Christ, is to reach out to those that need some help by feeding the hungry, promoting wellness, and offering hope.
Launched in April 2004, the Bread Basket began under the leadership of Rev. Denise Pickett, who saw a need and began to solicit funds from different organizations to address the issue of hunger in the Highbridge community and surrounding areas. Since then, we have been serving the community by providing nutritious home cooked meals, fresh fruit, and everyone leaves with a bag of fresh bread! We feed approximately 100 – 150 people each Wednesday from 12:00pm to 2:00pm, and are staffed by a number of committed volunteers who graciously give of their time to help serve others.
We occasionally offer other life-enhancing services that help bring wholeness and wellness to our community: Nutrition Workshops, Free screening for High Blood Pressure, HIV/Aids and Hepatitis C, Flu Shots, Mammograms, Food Stamp Screening, Gently Used Clothing and more.
